Margaret and her family recently returned to Austin, Texas after an adventure in the UK! A dual US/UK citizen, Margaret has lived, studied and performed in both countries and she and her family are fortunate enough to have experienced the best of both worlds! Margaret received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in cello performance studying with Paul Olefsky and continued with graduate studies at Indiana University in Bloomington with Tusyoshi Tsutsumi. Margaret participated in masterclasses and had private lessons during summer festivals in London, Maine, Vermont and the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Emanuel Hurwitz, Maurice Gendron, Pierre Fournier, Antonio Janigro, Michael Tree, Barbara Stein Mallow, Leslie Parnas and many other amazing musicians. Margaret has performed as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician around the world, performed for film and game scores, is a tenured member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and was the founder/owner of The Arundel Ensemble which provided live music throughout Texas for weddings, special events, studio recordings and backup music for rock stars.
A passionate educator, Margaret has been teaching since she was in her teens. She has worked in many parts of the world with students as young as 3 and a half up to octogenarians - private and group cello, piano, chamber music, theory, ear training, music history, orchestra sectionals and more! Margaret is a member of the Austin District Music Teachers Association, Texas Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association. She also can prepare students for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams and if students are interested in participating in local competitions and exams, she can prepare and enter them.
Margaret's goal is to foster a love of music in each and every student while providing a solid technical foundation in a supportive and nurturing environment.
